To celebrate Empanada day we made two dessert inspired “Empanadas” that pair perfectly with JEM Organics' nut butters. These are a twist on the traditional empanada, and if you are feeling adventurous you can totally make your own empanada dough to make them even more authentic! This super easy and customizable dessert is sure to please the whole family!
Strawberry Empanada with Chocolate Hazelnut Dip Recipe
Ingredients
- Pie crust *we used premade crust*
- Sliced strawberries
- JEM Organics Chocolate Hazelnut Butter
- 2 Tbs of coconut sugar
- A dash of flour
- 1 Egg
Directions
- Preheat oven to 425 degrees
- Roll out pie crust or dough on a floured surface. Cut out 4 inch wide circles.
- Place them on a parchment lined baking sheet
- In a small bowl combine strawberries, a tablespoon of sugar, a dash of flour and mix.
- Add this mixture to your dough, leaving room around the edges.
- In a small bowl beat egg
- Brush the edges with egg wash and fold in half, pressing the edges with a fork. Brush the egg over top and sprinkle it with sugar.
- Bake for 12-14 minutes or until golden brown
- Let cool and serve with JEM Organics Chocolate Hazelnut drizzled on top or as a dip on the side!
Salted Caramel Apple Empanada Recipe
Ingredients
- Pie crust
- 1 Granny smith apple
- JEM Organics Elderberry Cashew Almond Butter
- 2 Tbs of coconut sugar
- A dash of flour
- Cinnamon
- 1 Egg
Directions
- Preheat oven to 425 degrees
- Roll out pie crust or dough on a floured surface. Cut out 4 inch wide circles.
- Place them on a parchment lined baking sheet
- Peel and slice your apple.
- In a small bowl combine apples, a tablespoon of sugar and a dash of flour and cinnamon and mix.
- Add this mixture to your dough, leaving room around the edges.
- In a small bowl beat egg
- Brush the edges with egg wash and fold in half, pressing the edges with a fork. Brush the egg over top and sprinkle it with sugar.
- Bake for 12-14 minutes or until golden brown
- Let cool and serve with JEM Organics Salted Caramel Almond Butter drizzled on top or as a dip on the side!
