The carry-on requirements / rule for liquids are as follows in the USA via the TSA (Transportation Security Administration): You are allowed to bring a quart-sized bag of liquids, aerosols, gels, creams and pastes in your carry-on bag and through the checkpoint. These are limited to travel-sized containers that are 3.4 ounces (100 milliliters) or less per item.
These small containers of liquids must then be placed in a quart-sized plastic bag. We've taken Jem across the USA many-o-times and it works! Just make sure you're not trying to bring a 6-ounce jar or larger because the jars must be under 3.4 ounces to make it on the plane in your carry-on bag. So in that case, you'll have to check it.
